Improvements for Next Action status
J
J.O.D. 2024
I would like to suggest two improvements for status Next Action (based on my personal use for it):
- (optional) auto removal for this status, when a task is completed (like it is with starred tasks)
- (optional) when a Next Action subtask is completed, set another subtask for the same parent to Next Action
I am pretty sure, while the first suggestion is simple, the second one definitely is not. Too many problems: Should it work for subtasks (within the same parent) or also for tasks without subtasks (within the same project - which I think is, what GTD suggests?)? And what if there is no other such task? And on what rule should the sequence be based on, id of the task, alphabetically, due date...?
What do other users think?

I suggest these to be separated. I consider the first almost a bug. What business case exists to actually keep the status after a previous completion? The auto-removal is the same as "clear-the-status-field-when-recurring-task-marked-complete"

I would love to haven the auto removal option! :-)

Regarding setting “another” subtask to Next Action, might be more useful if this behavior applies to tasks in a folder. The subsequent task could be defined by its top-down order (if this could be manipulated manually) or a task-specific setting linking it to the previous Next action task.
