Enhanced Parent tasks <> subtasks assignment

It's a pain currently to move specific task under some existing parent task, you need to find the way to hav ethem both on the same view and only then you can drag and drop. Please add a feature to easly assign task to subtasks by selecting from list or by adding a possibility to display parent task as separate column in all views etc.

I have not seen this discussed in relation to the beta mobile app yet. Even in the same view, I see no way to make an existing task a subtask of another task. The need for this comes up frequently in my world.

It would be nice to have separate setting for subtask default field values. I would be concerned mainly with making the Status default "Next Action" for subtasks, whereas the default for parent tasks is "Active". There is at least some value for Next Action in the context of subtasks, and not having to change it manually would be an efficiency.

Pocket Informant attempted this and did an almost good job of it -- too many bugs. Rather than constructing a selection list within the subtask creation process, create a system that allows the user to go to any folder, saved search etc. select one or more tasks (radio buttons perhaps) and click a button to complete the action making them all subtasks of the intended parent task and taking the user back to that context.

Should the list read all uncompleted tasks, or just tasks currently visible in a current view? It would probably have to be a list with limited number of items, and not some search box (that would be inconsistent with the UI), but on the other hand a list with 50+ items also would be a problem. Just thinking...

J.O.D. 2024: True, that is why there are other possibilities worth considering like cut/copy+pasting of task, or advanced clipboard where you can temporarily store any number of task, or drag&drop but not only within current view etc.
