Automatically change due dates of overdue tasks

Would be nice to have the ability to create Floating tasks (set a future due date, and if not done, will automatically change to current date).
This is very useful with calendar integration, as a standard overdue task will be hidden as the calendar moves forward, but a floating task will show up every day to haunt you.
(yes, I know there's a workaround to create an automatically recurring task, but that's a cheesy workaround).

So, when should the message at the bottom of the screen pop up? I turned this feature on yesterday and intentionally didn't manually move my unfinished yesterday tasks until today. When I came in this morning and logged into TD, no option to rollover yesterday's tasks? It seems to be it should occur any time after midnight in the user's home time zone. Additionally, I don't see any option/implementation of this in Android, as I also logged into the app this morning and received no notification of overdue tasks to be rolled over. Thank you.

Sean Curley: It is a web only feature. And it works for me - every day I enter Toodledo for the first time, I get the alert. It is a question, if it is after midnight, or 24 hours. Sorry, cannot help.

it is very important really , but it should take into consideration the duration of each task in order to avoid an overload day ( f.e. total durations of tasks for today don't overpass the 24hours or the total work time as defined by the user

For me, this result is accomplished as a calendar setting (include overdue on today) or a saved search. For example, my primary working list includes everything with a due date today or earlier. It makes all tasks "float" and new, due today, tasks show up on the list each day.

boydston01: Saved searches rule! And just love sorting by importance, so that I don't have to think what from the list should I be doing first. (Of course, priorities may change, but the list contains 5-10 tasks as maximum and I can always postpone the task by setting a future start date and hit R).

I can see it is completed but cannot find any reference to how the user implements. I've searched the Blog, Info Centre etc, to no avail...

matthew.coysten: Check your settings, there is an Overdue Tasks Alert setting. When a overdue tasks is detected, then you get a warning at the bottom of the task list and option to update the due date to today.

J.O.D. 2024: Oh... That's not what I was expecting at all. I thought it would be aligned to the current method of influencing due dates on a per task basis (on, by, optionally on). Simply add "float"?! What a peculiar and blunt implementation of what could have been a great feature... Thanks in any case for pointing me in the right direction. Much appreciated.

matthew.coysten: oh, now I get what you meant from the begining! A new Repeat option, not a global solution! I would say you better create this as another feature request then, because I guess that would probably be much more complex feature - and in these hectic days for Toodledo, that would not be a short-term addition, I would guess. Although I admit, that per-task basis could be much more usefull for some people.

I'm in the same boat as 'sesher' I think (if I understand the feature properly): I do not want my overdue tasks to be automatically updated.
Good or bad, I actually still have some VERY overdue tasks that I just have around as reference items (eg, sometimes research or info type tasks); and thus do NOT want those dates updated. What will happen to those tasks and their respective dates?

bmoir: How about removing due dates from such tasks and add either a tag or status: Reference instead? They really should not have any due date anyway, in my opinion.

J.O.D. 2024: Thanks for the prompt feedback. Agreed, normally I wouldn't expect an overdue task to keep a due-date either. Without adding more columns (like Date-Created or something), I found my Due-Date helpful to give a rough idea when my older, "reference" task was a real concern...just for some context for myself. I'll likely remove the dates... Thanks!

I haven't seen this mentioned... does this apply to recurring tasks? If so, will the next due date automatically be move up too (I guess as an option)? For example, if I have a recurring task to say, change a filter every month, and I'm on vacation so I don't do it for 2 weeks, will the next occurrence be a month after completion, or 2 weeks?

fiona.h: I have not tested it, but I think that only when a repeating task is completed, the new recurence appears. Until then there is no "future" occurance present. This automatic-ish feature (meaning Toodledo detects overdue tasks, but asks you if you want them all updated or not) does update the due date, not the repeat settings. And it does not complete the task.
You can test it yourself, it is a live feature now (General Settings/Tasks/Overdue Tasks Alert).
